The Legend of Malin Kundang Cursed To Stone

Malin is considered a smart kid but a bit mischievous. He often chased chickens and beat them with a broom.

One day when Malin was chasing a chicken, he tripped over a rock and his right arm was hit by a rock. The wound became a scar on his arm and could not go away.

Because he felt sorry for his mother who worked hard to earn a living to raise himself. Malin decided to go abroad in order to become a rich person after returning to his hometown someday.

At first, Malin Kundang's mother did not agree, considering that her husband never came back after going abroad, but Malin persisted so that in the end her mother was willing to let Malin go abroad.

Armed with very little malin even thought of being able to go to the city with mediocre money. Then Malin boarded the ship of a merchant.

While on the ship, Malin Kundang learned a lot about shipping from experienced crew members.

On the way, suddenly the ship he was on was attacked by pirates. All the merchandise of the merchants who were on the ship was taken away by the pirates.

Even most of the crew and people on the ship were killed and cleared by the pirates.

Malin Kundang was lucky, he had time to hide in a small room so he was not killed by the pirates. Malin Kundang was adrift in the middle of the sea, until finally the ship he was carrying was stranded on a beach.

With the remaining strength, Malin Kundang walked towards the village closest to the beach. The village where Malin was stranded is a very fertile village.

There were many rich merchants and malin also worked there. The rich merchant had a son and introduced her to Malin Kundang.

After working there, Malin began to like the figure of his employer's son. Because of his tenacity and persistence in working and also being honest, Malin Kundang was appointed as his son-in-law.

After a few months of his father-in-law's business being held by Malin Kundang there was a very rapid change. Malin has more than 20 merchant ships and has 200 crew members.

The longer Malin Kundang is getting richer and no one can compete with his wealth.

The news of Malin Kundang who had become rich and had married reached Malin Kundang's mother. Malin Kundang's mother felt grateful and very happy that her son had succeeded.

Since then, Malin's mother has gone to the dock every day, waiting for her son who might return to his hometown.

After being married for some time, Malin and his wife set out on a voyage accompanied by many crew members and bodyguards.

Malin's mother who saw the arrival of the ship to the dock saw that there were two people standing on the ship's deck. She was sure that what was standing was his son Malin Kundang and his wife.

Malin's mother headed towards the ship. After getting close enough, his mother saw the scar on the person's right arm, the more convinced his mother was that the one she was approaching was Malin Kundang.

"Malin Kundang, my son, why did you go so long without sending news?" She said while hugging Malin Kundang.

But seeing an old woman who was dressed in shabby and dirty clothes hugging him, Malin Kundang became angry even though he knew that the old woman was his mother, because he was ashamed if this was known by his wife and his subordinates.

Getting such treatment from his son, Malin Kundang's mother was very angry and hurt. She did not expect her son to be a rebellious child.

Because of his mounting anger, Malin's mother swore at her son, "Oh God, I'm hurt to be treated like this by my own son. If it is true that he is my son, I swear he will become a stone.”

Not long after, the weather was suddenly cloudy and dark accompanied by lightning, Malin Kundang went sailing again and on the way came a terrible storm that destroyed Malin Kundang's ship.

Malin Kundang also spread to the shoreline. After that, Malin Kundang's body slowly became stiff and gradually finally shaped into a rock.
