Funny Story of Lazy Person
There was a man in the land of Pasundan in the past. The name Kabayan. He is a lazy man but has a lot of sense.
He also has a lot of sense even though he often uses it to support his laziness. Kabayan has a wife. Nyi Iteung is his wife's name.
The Snail
One day Kabayan was ordered by his father-in-law to take the field snails. The Kabayan did it lazily.
Arriving at the rice fields, he did not immediately take the field snails that were abundant in the fields, but just sat on the rice fields.
Long awaited did not return, Kabayan's father-in-law followed into the fields. He was surprised to find Si Kabayan just sitting on a rice field bund.
"Kabayan! What are you doing? Why don't you immediately go down to the fields and take the snails?"
"Father, I'm afraid to go down to the fields, because the fields are very deep. Look, this rice field is so deep that the sky can be seen in it," answered Kabayan.
Kabayan's father-in-law became furious. He pushed Kabayan's body until his son-in-law fell into the field.
Kabayan just smiled to himself as if he was innocent. "It turns out that this field is shallow, isn't it, father?" he said with his annoying smile. He then took the many rice field snails in the field.
The Jackfruit
On another day, Kabayan's father-in-law told Kabayan to pick jackfruits that were ripe. The jackfruit tree grows on the edge of the river and its trunk protrudes above the river.
Kabayan is actually lazy to do it. It was only after his father-in-law looked angry that Kabayan finally complied.
He climbed the tree trunk, pick one ripe jackfruit. Unfortunately, the jackfruit fell into the river. He did not rush down to the river to pick up the fallen jackfruit. He let the jackfruit drift away.
Kabayan's father-in-law were surprised to see Kabayan come home without bringing jackfruit. "What happened?" he asked with an irritated look on his face. "Where's the jackfruit I ordered you to pick?"
With an innocent face, Kabayan retorted, “What? Wasn't the jackfruit I asked to walk first? Hasn't the jackfruit arrived yet?"
“What do you mean, Kabayan?”
"When I picked it, the jackfruit fell into the river. Apparently he wanted to walk alone. So I let him walk and told him to come home quickly. I also warned him to turn to this house immediately. You ignorant old jackfruit, don't obey my orders either!"
"Ah, that's just your making-up excuse, Kabayan!" Kabayan's father-in-law grumbled. "Just say that you are lazy to bring the jackfruit home!"
Kabayan just smile even though his father-in-law scolded him.
Man in the Sack
At another time, Kabayan's father-in-law invited his lazy and stupid son-in-law to pick koro beans in the garden. They brought sacks for the koro beans they picked.
He had just picked a few koro nuts, Kabayan was too lazy to continue. Kabayan is sleepy. Then he slept in the sack.
When the call to prayer for Dhuhur was heard, Kabayan's father-in-law finished his work. He was very surprised because he did not find Kabayan with him. “You lazy bastard!” he grumbled. "He must have gone home early because he was lazy to carry a sack full of heavy koro beans!"
Kabayan's father-in-laws were forced to carry the sack containing Kabayan back home.
How shocked he was when he found out that the contents of the sack he was carrying were not koro beans, but Kabayan!
“This sack is not for humans but for koro beans!” Kabayan's father-in-law scolded after finding out that it was Kabayan who he carried until he arrived home.
The Revenge
The next day Kabayan's father-in-law again took his son-in-law to the garden to pick the koro nuts. Kabayan's father-in-law is still irritated by what happened yesterday. He wanted revenge on Kabayan.
When Kabayan was picking koro beans, his father-in-law quietly went into the sack and slept. He wanted Kabayan to carry him home like he did yesterday.
The call to prayer for Dhuhur was heard from a mosque in the distance. The Kabayan stopped his work.
He saw that his father-in-law was not with him. When he looked into the sack, he saw that his father-in-law was sleeping. Without saying much, Kabayan then tied the sack and dragged it.
Kabayan's father-in-law was shocked to find himself dragged by Kabayan. He was screaming from inside the sack, “Kabayan! It's Father! Don't drag me like this!"
However, Kabayan still dragged the sack containing his father-in-law until he arrived home. He said as he dragged, "This sack is for the koro beans, not for humans."
Cheating
Because of this incident, Kabayan's father-in-law was very angry with him. He silenced Kabayan. Do not want to talk to him and even look away if Kabayan greets or invites him to talk. He looks really hate his son-in-law who is lazy for many reasons.
Kabayan realized his father-in-law's hatred for him. However he felt bad being treated like that. He then looked for a way so that his father-in-law no longer hated him. Found that way. He also asked his wife about her father-in-law's real name.
"Knowing the father-in-law's real name is taboo, sweetheart!" Iteung warned. "Didn't you already know about this matter?"
Kabayan tried to persuade. He stated that he wanted to pray for his father-in-law to live a long life, always be healthy, have good fortune, and be away from all dangers. "If I don't know father's name, what will happen if my prayers are not directed to him and instead are directed to someone else?"
Iteung finally agreed to tell if her husband promised not to spread the secret. She said, “Father's real name is Nolednad. Remember, never mention his name to anyone!"
After knowing the name of his father-in-law, Kabayan then looked for palm water which was still thickened. He also took cotton in large quantities.
Kabayan went to the bottom, where his father-in-law used to bathe.
He then wet his whole body with thick palm water and put cotton all over his body. Kabayan then climbed a tree and sat on a tree branch while waiting for his father-in-law to come to take a bath.
When his father-in-law was taking a bath, Kabayan then shouted in a voice that sounded heavier, “Nolednad! Nolednad!”
Kabayan's father-in-law was very surprised to hear his name being called. Instantly he looked at the source of the voice calling him, he was even more shocked when saw a very scary white creature in his sight. "Who are you... are you...?" he stammered.
"Nolednad, I am the Grandfather of the guardians of this depths." said Kabayan. "I warn you Nolednad, you should love Kabayan because he is my favorite grandson. Don't you dare waste it. Take good care of him. Take care of clothing and food. If you do not carry out this message of mine, you will not be saved!”
Kabayan's father-in-law was very afraid to hear the words of 'Grandpa guarding the bottom'. He also promised to carry out the message of 'Grandpa guarding the bottom'.
Since then, Kabayan's father-in-law no longer hates Kabayan. He loved his son-in-law. Sufficient clothing and food needs of him. In fact, he also made a house, although small, for his son-in-law to live.
The Moral Message
